This page records how Holybourne villagers have provided all sorts of goods to help Ukraine
November 3rd
Another fantastic effort from Richard Hill and Nick Webb helping to sort and load the Ukraine relief van at the depot in Selborne. It’s going out on the 10th of November funded entirely by Holybourne. Fantastic effort from everyone who’s donated. I’m not going to close the appeal because we’ll have some leftover and it would be great if we could fund another trip in the New Year. many thanks to everyone who has donated stuff which is going to be so welcome as the winter draws in.
Notes from Jerry Janes our contact with the supply route to Ukraine. These notes are taken from our WhatsApp Hub and serve to provide a permanent record of our actions.
The village community has been extraordinarily generous in donating so much to the people in Ukraine. Naturally however I am often asked how I know it gets to the right people. To see for myself I am driving a van to Ukraine on the 14th of July returning on the 21st. There is an opportunity for another driver to come along too. Obviously the trip is not without risks but would anyone else like to join me in this incredible adventure? For practical reasons it is an all male trip for which I apologise. Please message me privately for further details.
Hello All, First of all, I would like to thank all those people who have and are continuing to contribute medical items and other goods to be taken to Ukraine. Barely a day goes by when I don’t find bags of donations in my porch. It is much appreciated by those in great need.
Now, could I encourage you to celebrate your collective achievements by coming to the “Party Night” this coming Friday , 27th June. This is to be held in the assembly rooms at 7.30 pm and promises to be a fun evening. Tickets can be obtained from the village shop, Newbury building society or from.Margaret Lockett 07543 125195.
We hope to see you there
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine continues raging. During the three years since the most recent incursion, there have been at least 12 thousand Ukrainian civilians killed, and 40 thousand injured. We’re fundraising to provide an ambulance to Ukraine. With vulnerable spots such as hospitals under attack, and drone strikes increasing the amount of civilian casualties, access to medical supplies and care is increasingly important. Join us in the Alton Assembly Rooms for a party you won’t forget ✨ Dance to BANDX and Carbon Copy Party Band, drink locally-brewed beer by FFF and Ten Tun Tap – all for a great cause. Tickets are just £15 and are available from the Newbury Building Society or the Holybourne Post Office.
I have a Masters degree in English, but I find myself completely lost for words when trying to express my gratitude to our wonderful community. My garage was once again overflowing with all kinds of things and I’ve just returned from taking a car load of catering equipment to the depot along with piles of blankets, towels, clothes, toys, and medical aids. It will remain my policy not to name individuals but you know who you are and please be assured of my sincerest gratitude. Please do keep it coming though. This load will be heading for Ukraine a week today.
Stuff is continuing to pour in for the Ukraine support effort. I’m so grateful to people. Please do let me have any winter coats you know you will never wear again and any bedding is particularly valued at the moment. The generosity of people continues to astonish me. I really am so incredibly grateful.
Once again, I have been inundated with donations to aid the relief to Ukraine. My garage is already filling up again for the third time in three weeks. I have been asked specifically if anyone has any adult size incontinence pants and/or size 5&6 children’s nappies. Additionally, they are seeking towels and bed linen, which obviously needs to be in reasonable condition. I’m very conscious of the fact that I’m continuously asking for things but the need has not diminished at all. In fact, given Putin‘s latest barbarism the need has actually grown.
Can I add to this? You may not know that Ukrainians living locally are having English language lessons on Fridays. Usually, they are very resilient about the situation, but on Friday last, we had people in tears following the bombing in Kiev last week. One lady told us that the apartment block in which her family was living has been destroyed. No one was killed, but now they have nothing. So anything that you can pass on would be welcomed.
And we are still collecting medication and medical aids. These go to the front line and are passed to the doctors there. So please have a look. We take anything so long as it is no more than 1 year out of date, preferably boxed but definitely identifiable. Part boxes are welcome. Thank you.
Also we are trying to raise money to send a fully equipped ambulance to Ukraine. There is a fund raising concert on May 31st in Holybourne theatre. 2 bands are performing free of charge. Tickets can be bought from the village shop or online from the theatre. Please help us by spreading the word especially to people not in this group
Thank you
The generosity of our community continues to amaze me. This load will be setting off on its journey at midday today and the similar load I took to the depot last week is now already in happy homes in Ukraine. I cannot thank you enough. With the winter, hopefully behind us perhaps now might be a good time to think about what you didn’t wear And pass it on if it’s in reasonable condition. I’m so grateful to everyone.
A huge ask. The Charity I work with have been gifted a fully restored generator. The Generator is to go to Borodyanka, a town still lying in ruins from 2022. to power a district heating boiler/distribution unit that supplies central heating to 1/4 of the whole of Borodyanka (mainly to rotate the pumps). The generator weighs about 1500KG and we need to borrow a dual axle brake assisted trailer to take it to the Ukraine. It would probably be out of this country for about a week. Is there anyone who might be prepared to lend us a trailer to deliver this crucially important piece of equipment? Might you know someone or a business who might do us this incredible favour? I am completely aware of how big an ask this is but I also know that Holybourne has this habit of amazing me with its generosity. Please copy this to any forum you might belong to. I’m happy to put you in touch with the Charity’s local agent. Many thanks.
I am absolutely delighted to be able to report that the generator will be delivered in a few days time to where it is most needed in Ukraine as a result of the network helping me find someone that was able to convey it for us. Once again, I’m blown away by the willingness of people to assist in what is a very right just and Christian cause.
I only drive a small car, but I wish I could show the village how tightly it is packed with donations that people have made over the last few days. Blankets, lots of clothing from adults down to small children, boots and shoes, household goods and medical supplies have all been donated and I cannot express my gratitude strongly enough to everyone for their help. The need won’t go away though so please do drop off anything you feel surplus to your own requirements and I will ensure it gets to where it is most needed.
And while you’re running for towels and medicines to send to Ukraine please also consider helping to buy and kit out an ambulance to send to Ukraine. There are tickets available now for the fabulous concert at Holybourne theatre on the website and in the shop. It’ll be a great night for an essential cause.
