SID = The Speed Indicating Device

This has been purchased at the request of and on behalf of the HVA It is authorised for use on 2 lampposts, no 12 near Andrew’s Endowed and 34 near the sports ground. It will be moved between the two on a regular basis and runs for about 2 weeks each time.

The device will check speeds of vehicles in either direction but will only indicate the speed to one, usually vehicles entering the village. The machine does not record any movement below 9 mph, cars moving less than 9 mph ‘sneak through’ unrecorded.

In order to compare speed in different areas a standardised figure is used, this is the speed at or below which 85 out of 100 vehicles drive under free flowing conditions. It is logged as the “V85”

The first data gathered is shown below. It will be updated as and when new figures are obtained.

Data from the Sports Ground end of village.
Over the 10 day survey a total of 6260 vehicle movements (above 9mph) were registered. 1639 vehicle entered Holybourne and 4621 left.
the graphs show the daily pattern of movement and the average speeds for the days. I t also picks out the outlying speeders.

Data from outside Andrew’s Endowed end

Over the 10 day survey, 11925 vehicles entered Holybourne from Montecchio Way and 13365 vehicles left.

This shows that by far, the majority of traffic movement is at the Andrew’s Endowed end.

Combining the data from the 2 surveys it shows that 80% of the vehicle movement is in this direction.

The other entry/exit of the village is via Brockham Hill Lane, which has not been measured.
